Organ concerts are back in Concordia and Bibione. Following on from the gratifying success seen in 2022, San Michele al Tagliamento and Concordia Sagittaria town councils are delighted to be able to offer music lovers another packed line-up of concerts featuring a blend of stars from the international organ scene, orchestras, choirs and promising young talents.
As always, the aim is to promote the local historical, cultural and environmental heritage through music and at the heart of it all are the organs built for Concordia Cathedral and the Church in Bibione by Zanin of Codroipo.
Just like last year, a single bill has been drawn up for all of the performances planned in both places of worship. The repertoires presented span a range of styles and eras. As well as pieces for solo organs, there will be chamber music and works for larger orchestras and choirs.
The organizers include the Amici di Concordia association, Bibione Spiaggia, the Parishes of Bibione and Concordia, and the Accademia Organistica Udinese, which is in charge of creative direction.
The concert season complements other initiatives to promote the area as a whole, as part of a comprehensive cultural selection for both local people and tourists. In addition to the concerts presented here and the activities promoted by the Archaeology Museum, events are being planned to mark the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the “Military Cemetery”: a find that plays a crucial role in the history of the ancient Roman colony of Iulia Concordia. Another noteworthy initiative is the expansion of the Lame wood. It gets its name from the marshes that were once found in the area, which were known locally as “lame”. One of the most quintessential examples of the woods on the Veneto coast, it is a site of natural interest that is mentioned in numerous specialist ecotourism guides and itineraries. As well as musical performances, people in the area can now also enjoy film-based initiatives thanks to the reopening of the Cinema C a few months ago. On top of all this, there are a host of initiatives to introduce people to the wonders of Bibione’s landscape and environment, from the vast sandy shore to the packed network of canals, the traditional fishermen’s homes known as “casoni” and the land reclamation work done in the inland areas.
